WELCOME TO CARRAIG
Welcome to Carraig, The Birthplace of Bruce
Carraig is the original Scottish Gaelic name for Carrick, meaning ‘rock’ or ‘rocky place’. It is a former district of Scotland which today forms part of South Ayrshire and is just a 1 hour drive from Glasgow. Robert The Bruce was born here at Turnberry Castle in 1274 and poet Robert Burns lived some years here too.
Carraig is a flourishing nature, cultural and heritage destination. It is part of The GSA UNESCO Biosphere, Scotland's UNESCO Trail and is an Outlander filming location.

Through our engaged people and distinct places Carraig is becoming Scotland's fifth eco-museum after Staffin on Skye, The Cateran, The Eco-museum of Scottish Mining Landscapes and the cross-border Flodden 1513.
Eco-museum means we are a museum without walls or museum connected to the environment where visitors can discover the many 'exhibits' of our great outdoors. From castles, to sculptures, to islands and trails.
You may recognise some of our most famous landmarks - Ailsa Craig, Culzean Castle, Turnberry Lighthouse or Souter Johnnie's Cottage. Many more discoveries await ...
